About me.

When I first began studying percussion, I never imagined being exposed to such amazing sounds and music. Now, I hope to share that with you.

Hailed as “committed,” “energetic,” and possessing feline-like grace in her approach to percussive performance, Dr. Lusha Anthony is a versatile and dynamic percussionist with a passion for contemporary music. A fearless performer with a passion for innovation, she thrives in the realms of collaborative artistry and electroacoustic music, seeking to bridge the gap between tradition and cutting-edge sound. Whether on stage or in the classroom, her mission remains the same: to share the transformative power of music with audiences both within and beyond the contemporary music scene.

A staunch advocate for new music, Lusha has premiered numerous works, including Concertpop by Andrea Mazzariello—a riveting fusion of percussion and keyboard trigger—and Busker Fantasy by Peter Van Zandt Lane, a concerto for found-object percussion, in which he was featured as a soloist. Her performances span the globe, from being a featured artist in the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center’s Future Masters series to electrifying audiences with the Liaoning Province Electroacoustic Band in their “Crash -- Fusion” concert series. She has also performed as a soloist in Sean Friar’s Clunker Concerto with the Purchase Symphony Orchestra and shared the stage with icons such as Gil Kalish, Tina Dahl, the New York New Music Ensemble, Roomful of Teeth, Natalie Merchant, the New York Chamber Brass, the Honolulu Symphony, Oahu Choral Society, and more.

Lusha’s artistic vision extends far beyond the traditional concert hall. A dedicated collaborator, she has worked alongside musicians, actors, dancers, and visual artists in multidisciplinary projects that push artistic boundaries. Significant collaborations include serving as the musical director for the show Blood Wedding at the Conservatory of Acting at Purchase College. She has also curated and performed concert programs at the Neuberger Museum, intertwining live music with visual art to create immersive experiences. Her work with New Zealand composer Gareth Farr and actress/vocalist Mere Boynton on an innovative arrangement of Uri Taniwha for further highlights her ability to blend diverse artistic expressions into powerful performances.

Currently, Lusha serves as co-director of percussion studies and associate music director at Global Music School in Shanghai, China. In addition to her teaching and performing work, she has also served as a judge for several international percussion competitions, including the China Northwest Division of IPEA and the Bright China International Competition.

She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from Stony Brook University and both Master and Bachelor of Music degrees from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, SUNY. With an unwavering commitment to expanding the possibilities of percussion, she continues to challenge conventions, inspire audiences, and help shape the next generation of musicians.
